Message Yes and no.

If he puts it in and it works fine for years to come, you paid $150 for the peace of mind.

If he puts it in and it continues to crap out until the warranty period is over, then he just leaves you stranded, then you paid $150 to still not have AC for however many more months. At least it's cold as shit here lately.

The fact that he won't tell you the brands he's using, and they all have the same exact problem would tell me to personally call it a loss and move on. Not telling you what he is putting in the car SCREAMS shady to me, especially since you directly asked him (assuming you did by what you wrote).

Not warrantying labor for a part you supplied is fairly common practice. I know we used to install customer parts, but we would do it with no warranty. If one of the techs screwed up the install we would correct it as much as possible, but no official warranty was ever given.
